Serenade Foods Salmonella Lawyer Update: FSIS Issues Health Alert Due to Recalled Frozen Raw Chicken Products Linked to Salmonella Outbreak.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an update on a current salmonella outbreak linked to Raw Frozen Breaded Stuffed Chicken Products sold by Serenade Foods. In their update the CDC informed that as of August 11, 2021, the number of cases linked to the outbreak has risen by eleven, bringing the total up to twenty-eight lab-confirmed cases. The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall of the potentially contaminated chicken products was issued on August 9th, 2021, involving over 59,000 pounds of frozen, raw, breaded, and pre-browned stuffed chicken products that may be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis.
A health alert was issued by the FSIS on June 2nd, 2021, before the recall, advising consumers to refrain from buying and eating certain chicken products due to potential salmonella contamination. Although no specific brand or company was named at the time the FSIS along with the CDC were able to trace certain chicken products to multiple illnesses with the same salmonella strain. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture collected frozen, raw, breaded, stuffed chicken products from a retail store for testing, which all tested positive for the outbreak strain of Salmonella Enteritidis. Sadly due to the lack of traceable information at the time, the FSIS was unable to request a recall.
The FSIS has now upgraded the health alert to High-Class I due to the increased number of cases and the recall issued by the company. According to the FSIS, unopened intact packages of raw, frozen, breaded chicken stuffed with broccoli and cheese were collected from an ill person’s home and tested positive for the outbreak strain of Salmonella Enteritidis. Both the FSIS and CDC have stated that they will continue to investigate the outbreak and that consumers should stay vigilant for Dutch Farms, Milford Valley, and Kirkwood chicken products with establishment number “P- 2375” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The CDC has stated that the true number of people affected by the outbreak is most likely higher than the reported cases thus far and that many other states may have been affected as well. Consumers should be on the lookout for symptoms of salmonella such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, vomiting, and fever. Ron Simon, a National Salmonella Lawyer, stated:
“A Salmonella infection is usually diagnosed by a positive culture from a stool sample of the infected person. In more severe illnesses, Salmonella bacteria can sometimes be detected in a contaminated person’s blood or urine.”
