Sabra Dipping Company LLC, Salmonella Lawyer Update: Hummus Recalled from 16 States Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of hummus products sold by the Sabra Dipping Company, LLC on March 29, 2021, due to potential salmonella contamination. The voluntary recall affects just about 2,100 cases of the 10 oz. Classic Hummus, no other Sabra Dipping products have been linked to the recall at this time.
According to the FDA, the recall was issued immediately after the potential contamination was discovered by the FDA during a routine screen of a single tub of the hummus product. Sabra Dipping Company, LLC has stated that as of the date of the recall no illness or complaints have been reported in regards to the potential contamination. The Classic Hummus products affected by the recall were produced on February 10, 2021, and have the best by date of April 26. In their recall announcement, the company stated that the potentially contaminated products were distributed to 16 different states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Indiana, Mississippi, Maine, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, New Jersey, Utah, Virginia, Washington and, Wisconsin.
Consumers who purchased the contaminated hummus products are advised to dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase as soon as they are able to. The recalled hummus products can be distinguished by the UPC 300067 and best by date of April 26. Consumers should stay vigilant of the potentially contaminated products since they are only halfway through their shelf life and they could be in consumer’s refrigerators without their knowledge.
Salmonella is a highly contagious bacterium that can cause an infection known as salmonellosis. Those who contract salmonellosis normally begin to experience symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and fever, as early as 12 hours after the ingestion of the contaminated with salmonella. Ron Simon, a National Salmonella Lawyer, stated:
“A Salmonella infection is usually diagnosed by a positive culture from a stool sample of the infected person. In more severe illnesses, Salmonella bacteria can sometimes be detected in a contaminated person’s blood or urine.”
