Raw Ground Turkey Salmonella Lawyer Update: Salmonella Hadar Outbreak Linked to Raw Ground Turkey Products.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have announced a health alert regarding ground turkey products linked to a recent salmonella outbreak. The health alert was officially announced on April 12, 2021, after the CDC announced their investigation of the Salmonella Hadar outbreak. No recall has been announced in regards to the outbreak since it is believed that the affected products sold by Nature’s Promise, Wegman, and Plainville Farms, are no longer available for in-store purchases.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has also issued a health alert due to the ground turkey products linked to the salmonella outbreak. As of the day of the health alert announcement, the number of reported salmonella cases linked to the ground turkey products are twenty-eight, with at least 2 required hospitalization. The cases were reported to health department officials from 12 States and all the people affected by the outbreak stated that they had consumed ground turkey from at least one of the three companies linked to the salmonella outbreak before becoming ill.
The products linked to the outbreak are no longer available for store purchase but health department officials are concerned since consumers could still have the contaminated products in their freezer without knowing it. The Raw Ground Turkey products were distributed to retail stores all over the United States and can be distinguished by the products establishment number EST. P-244 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The people affected by the outbreak reported onset dates ranging from December 28, 2020, through March 4, 2021, but consumers should still remain vigilant for symptoms of salmonella if they have consumed any of the contaminated turkey products.
Salmonella is a bacterium that multiplies rapidly and can cause an infection known as Salmonellosis. Since the infectious dose of Salmonella is as small as 15-20 cells a person can become ill from consuming a small amount of a contaminated product. Ron Simon, a National Salmonella Lawyer, stated:
“Salmonella bacteria subsequently multiply at an alarming rate, causing manifestation of symptoms ... Salmonella infection is usually diagnosed by a positive culture from a stool sample of the infected person. In more severe illnesses, Salmonella bacteria can sometimes be detected in a contaminated person’s blood or urine.”
