Pure Eire Dairy E. coli Lawyer Update: 15 E. coli Cases Linked to Pure Eire Dairy Brand Yogurt.
The Washington Department of Agriculture issued an update on the E. coli outbreak potentially linked to Pure Eire Dairy in Washington on May 27, 2021. The outbreak was first linked to organic yogurt products produced by the dairy company under the brand name PCC Community Market. After being informed of the potential link to the outbreak the dairy company quickly acted and began the recall of multiple yogurt products sold under their brand name on May 15, 2021. Thus far health department officials have received 15 reports of E. coli cases linked to the outbreak, eleven of which are children.
In their recent update of the outbreak, a spokesperson of the Washington Department of Agriculture stated that they have not found E. coli in samples tested in relation to an E. coli outbreak. He also disclosed “In addition, the batches tested were from the available product, and not necessarily the product that has made people sick. The absence of E. coli does not mean the product was free of E. coli, only that the bacterium was not detected.” The investigation of the dairy products is still underway the department of agriculture collected 40 environmental samples from the dairy’s processing facility and 15 samples of its pasteurized milk, although the tests so far have been negative for E. coli bacterium the common product used by all the affected people seems to be the organic yogurt.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated in their outbreak report that out of the 15 confirmed cases so far at least nine have required hospitalization. Out of the reported cases even are children with ages between 0 to 9 years of age, four of the children who were diagnosed with the strain of E. coli linked to the outbreak have developed a potentially deadly kidney complication known as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). The only cases reported so far have been from counties in Washington with the exception of one case in Arizona. According to health department officials, the Arizona case is likely a secondary infection, meaning the person infected probably was made ill by someone traveling from Washington to Arizona who was already ill from the product. E. coli symptoms normally develop within 24-72 hours after ingesting contaminated products.
Symptoms normally include severe stomach cramps, headache, muscle aches, bloating, and diarrhea, which are often bloody, in some severe cases people can develop a deadly kidney complication known as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Ron Simon, a National E. coli Lawyer, stated:
