The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has issued an advisory telling consumers to avoid eating a specific lot of romaine hearts sold under the Ocean Mist Farms brand.
The advisory covers romaine hearts sold at several stores throughout Wisconsin. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture laboratory found the disease-causing parasite Cyclospora in the romaine hearts. Since Cyclospora was discovered, the product has been recalled. There have been no reported illnesses connected to the romaine hearts.
What is Cyclospora
Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that causes an intestinal illness known as cyclosporiasis.
What are the symptoms of Cyclospora
The symptoms of Cyclospora are similar to other gastrointestinal illnesses.
They include:
- Frequent diarrhea
- Loss of appetite
- Isolation
- Stomach pains or cramps
- Weight Loss
- Nausea
Where was the product sold?
DATCP released a list of locations where the romaine hearts in question was sold.
These locations are:
- Dick’s Fresh Market – Amery, Osceola, River Falls, Somerset
- MarketPlace – St. Croix Falls
- Nilssen’s Foods – Baldwin, Cumberland, Ellsworth, Glenwood City
- Super One Harbor View – Superior
- Wayne’s Foods Plus – Danbury, Webster
What product was recalled?
The affected product includes:
Ocean Mist Farms romaine hearts lettuce, 22 oz. packages, coding "22RHDM2L" with a harvest date of "MAR10." The product was grown in Coachella, Calif. Consumers who have any of these products should discard them.
