North Bay Produce Inc. Listeria Lawyer Update: Fresh Apples Recalled Due to Potential Listeria Risk.
North Bay Produce Inc. has now issued a voluntary recall that includes more than 2 thousand cases of a variety of common apples, including popular variants such as McIntosh, Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Fuji, Jonamac and Red Delicious apples. In addition, 2 bulk bins of fresh apples are being recalled. The recall was announced on October 25, 2019 and issued due to the possibility that the apples are contaminated with a potentially deadly bacteria, Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall included a variety of brands that were distributed by North Bay Produce Inc. and was announced by the Food and Drug Administration(FDA) on October 28, 2019.
The FDA has announced that as of the time of the recall no illnesses have been reported as linked to the recall. The recalled apples were shipped between October 16th, 2019 and October 21st, 2019 from one North Bay facility to wholesalers, retailers, and brokers in Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin. According to the FDA any apples purchased before October 16, 2019, are not affected by the recall and all other North Bay Produce products are not affected by the recall.

The variety of apple brands affected by this listeria recall include at least McIntosh, Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Fuji, Jonamac and Red Delicious. According to North Bay Produce, the implicated apples aresold in plastic bags under a number of common brand names, including Great Lakes and North Bay Produce Pure Michigan,as well as in clear plastic tote bags and white paper tote bags that have no brand name on them. In addition, they can be sold individually by retailers in display trays that make it nearly impossible to know where they came from.

The FDA has advised all customers who have purchased the recalled products to avoid eating them and either discard them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Listeria Monocytogenes: A Potentially Deadly Bacteria
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Listeriosisis a serious infection caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. Symptoms of Listeriosis normally include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea, if the infection spreads to the nervous system such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions may occur.
Ron Simon , a national Listeria Lawyer , stated “ In cases where a diagnosis of listeriosis occurs, the infection is generally an invasive infection, which means that the Listeria has spread beyond the gastrointestinal tract and into other parts of the body. The specific symptoms of listeriosis depend on the person infected and the kind of infection.”
