Guan’s Mushroom Co. Listeria Lawyer Update: Enoki Mushrooms Recalled Due to Listeria Risks.
The company Guan’s Mushroom Co. of Commerce, CA, issued a recall on cases of their Enoki Mushroom on March 23, 2020, due to a potential risk ofListeria monocytogenescontamination. The recall was issued after the State of California discovered potential contamination during routine testing. The contamination was noticed in Enoki Mushroom packages of 200g/7.5 ounces. According to theFood and Drug Administration ’s (FDA) recall report, no illnesses have been linked to the recalled mushroom products to date.
Guan’s Mushrooms distributed the Korean mushroom products from CA, NY, and PA through retail stores. The recalled products were shipped to retail stores in white cardboard boxes which contained 25 packages of 200g Enoki Mushroom bags. The mushroom products were sold in clear plastic 200g bags which have the Guan’s company logo and a description of “Enoki Mushrooms” in English, Korean, and French. The recalled products have the UPC: 859267007013 on the lower back right of the bag under the package code 14-1.
The FDA is advising all consumers to avoid eating the recalled mushroom products, they are also urging those who have the products on their refrigerators to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or to dispose of them in a safe manner. The distribution of the Enoki Mushrooms sold by Guan’s Mushroom Co. has been suspended until further notice. Retailers have been advised to avoid selling the recalled items.
Listeria monocytogenes bacterium can cause a serious infection calledListeriosis. The FDA has advised consumers who have eaten any of the recalled mushroom products to stay vigilant for symptoms of listeriosis such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In more serious cases a listeriosis infection can spread to the nervous system and cause serious symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. According toRon Simon, aNational Listeria Lawyer, those more prone to listeriosis infection are pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and those with weak immune systems. Infected pregnant women may experience only a mild, flu-like illness; however, infections during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth, premature delivery, or infection of the newborn.
