Soft ripened cheese recalled by World’s Best Cheeses
A soft cheese made by a French company and sold by World’s Best Cheeses of Armonk, NY, has been recalled by the company. World’s Best Cheeses has recalled 22 cases of Formagerie de la Brie brand, l’Explorateur soft ripened cheese because it has the potential to be contaminated with listeria.
Made from pasteurized milk, the company’s Formagerie de la Brie brand, l’Explorateur, soft ripened cheese has been distributed in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Utah, Colorado, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington DC. The recalled cheese was sold through retail stores beginning February 28, 2018 through April 13, 2018.
The cheese was manufactured by Fromagerie de la Brie of St. Simeon, France. The Explorateur product that has been recalled comes in a 250g (8.8 oz.), clear plastic package marked with lot numbers H036, H038, H043 and H044.
No food poisoning related to the cheese has yet been reported. However, World’s Best Cheeses was notified by their French Consolidator of a suspicion for listeria contamination. The recall is based on a food safety concern.
Another recent cheese recall involves Explorateur French Triple Crème cheese, sold at Whole Foods stores under the names Explorateur, Explorateur French Triple Crème Cheese, and Explorateur Triple Crème French Cheese.
Eating listeria contaminated food can cause listeriosis, an infection that is a serious public health concern and manifests in symptoms of fever, gastrointestinal symptoms, and muscle aches. Infections can become more serious and require hospitalization.
