E. coli Lawsuits Being Drafted for both E. coli Outbreaks in Knoxville Area: Sick Children at Center of Both Outbreaks

Two separate groups of children sick with e. coli in Knoxville: Victims in both outbreaks to file E. coli Lawsuit
At least 10 children in the Knoxville, Tennessee, area have become sick with symptoms related to e. coli, but health officials have determined there are two separate sources of their illnesses that are not related. Most of the children became ill after drinking raw milk at French Broad Farm. The second group of children apparently contracted their illness at a daycare center in Mascot, Kids Place. Both sets of children are candidates to file an E. coli Lawsuit.
The daycare center had been temporarily closed by healthcare officials. All but the Baby House section of the center’s multiple facilities have been cleared to reopen. The youngest children, and the children who became ill, were cared for in the Baby House.
East Tennessee Children’s Hospital has now treated 11 children for illnesses related to e. coli. All of the children are under the age of four. Two of the children remain in the pediatric intensive care and are in serious condition. At present, no deaths have been reported.
Health officials have collected samples from French Broad Farm to test for e. coli contamination. The farm also closed temporarily but has not yet been cleared to re-open. Investigators are searching for evidence of food safety issues and any other contamination that may have caused the illnesses. While raw milk is highly regulated, in Tennessee milk share programs are allowed. Raw milk is unpasteurized. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises against consuming raw milk as it can harbor dangerous microorganisms that can pose serious health risks. Raw milk can carry dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli , and Listeria , which are responsible for causing numerous foodborne illnesses.
