Although environmental samples tested positive for Salmonella, none conclusively matched the outbreak strain. Due to the cantaloupes no longer being in the market, no public recall was issued. In some cases, even after the infection has cleared, individuals may develop reactive arthritis, a painful inflammation of the joints that can last for months or years.
