Almark Foods Listeria Lawyer Update: Almark Foods Expands Egg Recall.
Almark Foods announced on December 23, 2019, that they would be expanding their voluntary recall on all hard-boiled egg products to include all retail pillow pack, pouch pack, frozen diced, and protein kit products, due to the potential of the products being contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes. The contaminated products are believed to have been manufactured in the Gainesville, Georgia facility. According to the Food and Drug Administration(FDA), the broadened recall will affect products sold in retailers such as Walmart and Trader Jones.
The voluntary hard-boiled eggs recall was first announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) after it was discovered that the egg products were linked to a multi-state Listeria outbreak. As of December 20, 2019, the CDC received reports of people affected by the outbreak from five different states; one of the cases was a death which was reported from Texas. A total of seven listeria cases have been reported as linked to the outbreak, four cases have required hospitalization.

Almark Foods has temporarily halted production at the Georgia plant and will recall all egg products which were manufactured in the plant until all problems are resolved. The President of Almark Foods, Don Stoner, spoke with CNN about the outbreak and stated “We are working diligently in cooperation with the FDA to restore operations at our Gainesville plant so that we can continue providing safe, healthy, and affordable eggs to the market from that facility. We apologize for this extremely rare safety lapse and we’re making every effort to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.”
The products affected by the recall have a “Best If Used By” date that starts with a G, according to the FDA the letter G at the beginning of the best by date means that it was manufactured at the Gainesville plant. Consumers are advised to avoid egg-based products until more is known about the outbreak, a full list of the recalled products can be found on the FDA website.
According to Almark Foods Listeria Lawyer Ron Simon, “Listeriosis is a serious infection caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.” Those normally affected are people of advanced age, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea.
